I got rid of iBook Stores today and if that means Barns & Noble also, so be it. There will not be any GMJ Books on iBook Stores from now on. I had long had doubts on whether I want to do business with Apple, I don’t like the fact that Steve Jobs rejected Christianity outright, I don’t like the fact that the first Apple computer sold for $666 and I certainly don’t like the idea of Apple telling a Judge to stuff his court order in cracking a terrorist’s iPhone. That to me shows an attitude which is not to my liking nor admiration and it should not be to you either. If you admire such behaviour, don’t read the GMJ Books, you will not be happy with their contents, I assure you.
Legally, the company’s attitude makes absolutely no sense. The FBI is not, repeat not, demanding that they open the doors on every iPhone in history, no, one specific mobile linked to a man who murdered, with his imported wife, 14 people and injured another 22, all in the name of Muslim radicalism which has no place, as has no other radicalism, in modern society. I assure you, in my day, that CEO would have been arrested by now with his entire board for contempt of court and interfering with an investigation. Get real, this is about life and death and preventing further attacks, not about one deceased’s “right to privacy!” He has no such rights! I have never heard such crap in my life before and it is amazing that it is allowed and supported. Pathetic really and no, I have zero sympathy for his supporters, they will cry another story when the next attack (and there will be more) hits closer to home. But this is not the only reason the GMJ Books are being removed from all iBook Stores and I gave the instruction this morning to do so. No, what broke the camel’s back is that they complained that I promised to give one book away for free in a book’s description, to wit GMJ 7, Code Name Angel. Let me quote what I said in the book’s description and which they have a problem with:
“One of the first major Egg Breaker operations was to recover lost South African nukes on its way to Iran or Al-Qaeda, we are not too sure. Major Foxtrot under command of his then issued girlfriend and handler, Angelique Dawson, has to recover the weapons. Angelique is causing Foxtrot grey hairs being "otherwise." It is a classic Special Forces story which never reached the newspapers. This book follows GMJ Book Six, Code Name Foxtrot and takes place historically before the Egg Breaker War Series or GMJ 1 to GMJ 5. If you wish to read about covert and Special Forces operations in Sub Saharan Africa, the GMJ Books are the place to start. You will learn about covert operations, Special Forces techniques and military history not known outside the select few and the GMJ Books are based on facts. Whatever is said here, can be proven. I am grateful that you are reading my books. Thank you and remember, one book is always free, go on my website and find it. Code Name Angel is the seventh book in the popular GMJ Series.”
Yep, I assure you, that description will not change, bye-bye Apple. From now on the GMJ Books will be available at Amazon Kindle and a few other select stores but not iBook Stores, your loss, your reader’s loss, I don’t care, I have other options and I will go my own way. I will do the same with my other books, under my own name, which I noted is downloading by the hundreds every month in iBook Stores. Just because I can. But you may wonder, why this reaction from me? It is a matter of principle and such things are dangerous but serious. I decided from the beginning that the GMJ Books will do three things. (1) They will honour my late wife with the codes in them we spoke about before. (2) They will reveal information I want revealed to the public, which is why some see them as controversial and (3) I will honour God, the Christian one, in my books. There are no sexual scenes in a GMJ Book, such things belong between husband and wife and not in the open. I don’t write sleaze, I write good, some say great (thank you), covert & spy & Special Forces novels combined with military history and a lot of romance in the Sub Saharan sphere. Nor will you find bad or obscene language in any GMJ Book, and you will find the characters quoting Bible verses now and then. By all means, if you don’t like this type of writing, you don’t have to read my books, move on. Luckily many thousands of readers do love them. Now the crux, part of honouring God is to give 10% back as demanded in the Bible, hence I give a book for free, they shuffle - then this one, then that one - away. That is called “throwing your bread on the water” and I have zero intention of stopping this aspect, it will not happen no matter what iBook Stores feel about it. In fact, with Amazon Kindle Select, I am giving six books away every month, and they are downloading nicely, not everyone is ungrateful.
And then, since I am on a bit of a warpath here, forgive me, I am not often that bothered – the other day I read in a South African magazine that eBooks are so expensive? Really? You know what, they are not! The author gets 40% of what you see advertised as the selling price. Why, 30% goes to Uncle Sam for tax (it is withheld, you don’t even see it) and another 30% commission goes to the website. Yes, so 60% goes for other people but the author. When the ZAR fell, because of Nene-Gate and it will fall even more, mark my words, I reduced the prices for the paper books by 30%, one third, to adjust in South African reader’s favour. I get the strong dollar must be hurting you, and I assisted where I could. You get value for money when buying my books, an average of 250 pages per book and a free history lesson, smile. If I have to charge the time it takes to write a GMJ Book as I would if you were a client in my offices, then every book is worth at least $6 500 of my time. Let us keep it real people, bye-bye iBook Stores, see how I will miss you! Try your luck with the next fellow who is desperate, I am not.
