Thank you for reading my first blog. I am the author of the GMJ Series of Spy Thrillers and George M James is a pseudo name I use to protect myself and my family. I had written many other non-fiction books but the GMJ Books are fiction only up to a point. I say up to a point because they are really well researched and read like they could be true. From a historical viewpoint they are true and correct.
You can take for granted if a place is described in my books you will be able to go there and find it as it was at the time when the story plays off. And if the characters say something which may be outlandish to you, just be aware I can substantiate every word as I have a couple of hundred pages of background information on every book. For instance one fellow took offense that one of the main characters said drones miss their targets 90% of the time. Actually, it is from a congressional report and can be researched. Just the past couple of days an American tourist was tragically killed by a lion in a game park in South Africa. In GMJ Book 5, Code Name Dawson, this very game park is described with the character stating he does not wish to be dropped by parachute into that area for that very reason, to avoid the lions. I am not capitalizing on the tragedy but explaining how accurate my books are. My thoughts and prayers are with the victim’s family.
If you wish to know about Special Forces operations in Sub Saharan Africa this is the place to be. My books are startling realistic simply because they are based upon real operations at times and also because I know the subject. I have close to thirty years’ experience in this theater of operations. The premise of the books that the Al-Qaeda terrorists and other radical Muslims are finding a safe haven in Sub Saharan Africa is true. It is well-known that the London Tube Bombers had Southern African links (telephone calls, emails and South African passports.). It is just as well-known that the so called white widow Samantha Lewthwaite hid in South Africa for a while (and a South African passport). Go and research it and you will find the evidence. It is freely available.
I have to say I was not surprised by the feedback I got back from readers. Most wants to know if this is true. As I said in my website and at the Smashwords Interview the correct answer is the books are fiction but based on history and reality. So it reads very realistically and everything in it concerning weapons and Special Forces techniques and well as spy craft is true. There are no silly Hollywood descriptions of blinking bombs…you know the ones with a timer on for you to see how many seconds you have left to disarm it. No, it does not work like that in real life. Bombs never have such devices and never blink at you with a nice LED to tell you where they are. Ask me, I know about bombs and demolition. And I know the theater of reality in this part of the world.
So what is the purpose of this blog? Simply to discuss questions which readers sent me (I am grateful, you can always contact me) as well as counter terrorism in general. Note that every GMJ Book is based on something which happened somewhere and I heard about. If we take for instance GMJ Book 2, Code Name Pour Angelique, the main characters are off to the South African Naval Base at Simons Town to sabotage two German build Type 209 diesel-electric submarines for reasons you can find on my website where the book is described. The methods of entry used in the books are exactly what were done in a practice operation I was told about. The Special Forces lads did get in and they did plant the practice bombs. And so the list goes on with all the books. In GMJ Book 8, Code Name Odette, we look at broken ciphers & codes and penetration agents in Western Intelligence Agencies. This goes on in GMJ Book 9, Code Name Sanford which will be released in June 2015. It is a serious problem.
You may ask what the books are about. Well you have two main characters, Angelique Dawson who controls counter terrorism operations in Sub Saharan Africa on behalf of the new South African Government that is not Western orientated at all. They support their old mates, the Palestinians, Soviets (now Russia), Communist China, North Korea and you name it and these are the people who supported them for years. In the books we speak of a “Muslim Truce” which comes down to positive neutrality. In other words an open but secret invitation was extended, come here and we will protect you in the sense that not a single Western Special Forces Unit, covert or not, will get to you. And so they came. Is this true? Well, read again about the terrorism links above and most analysts believe it is if denied, obviously.
The second character is former Special Forces Operator, Major Geoffrey Foxtrot and his mate Captain Peter Ndebele, also known as Geelslang (a type of snake). They are part of a mysterious group of operators called the “Egg Breakers” who are theoretically under Angelique’s Dawson’s command as they started off as far as we know (we don’t know really) under Directorate F of the South African Secret Service but the British MI6 lads may be behind them. They are all Afrikaners and to be found all over Africa. They assist Mrs Dawson quite ably to do what is needed. In the first GMJ Book, Code Name Vfo565, Angelique Dawson marries Geoffrey Foxtrot but to get that far was no easy road for them. She had lost a husband and him a wife and both are wary of each other with Foxtrot stating flatly she is “otherwise” and bloody dangerous. Some readers told me the ripostes between them are what made the books great for female readers. Angelique Dawson is dangerous and she is otherwise and she usually drives Foxtrot nuts in her antics. Yet they share secrets and a deep love for each other with both too scared to say much about it until their souls got fed up and took over.
So yes it is a romantic story also besides the action which some say is not really spy craft but more Special Forces orientated. That may be true depending how you see it…if Angelique is a spy and if she wants a radical snatched she sends Foxtrot and Geelslang who will do so and the way they do so is utterly realistic. Hence you find typical Special Forces operations like HALO jumping, sniping, explosives, assassination in every book. It really is very dynamic and worth your time to read. We also always have one of the nine books (and growing) free of charge so you can test read them before deciding to buy.
George M James is a pseudo name for the author and used for security reasons and the safety of his family. He is an expert on counterterrorism and counterinsurgency operations in sub-Saharan Africa, a military historian and published author of 47 books. In the GMJ Series, you will learn about Covert Operations, Special Forces techniques, current political analyses and military history not known outside the select few. Because of the contents and startling disclosures inside GMJ Books, some authorities call them “dangerous fiction.” Yet, every GMJ Book is based on historical fact and often what is revealed in a GMJ Book is published by the mainstream media a short while later. Many of the GMJ Books are used as training material by Police Forces (SWAT) across the world. Each GMJ Book has a large element of the truth inside it, they are well researched. They are not only good reading material but also a warning against that what is not known to the public. The GMJ Books may very well change the way you look at counterterrorism and espionage for the better. George M James’s books, both under his real name and as GMJ, are widely read among military veterans of many nations, most find them very agreeable to their conservative views.
