Code Name Lise is exciting to me as it refers to Code Name Devorah or GMJ 11 I am writing now. One of the scenes in this book is played out in the later book, the wedding of Commodore Octavius and Lieutenant Abeille and I had to reread what I typed in Lise. Obviously I did not then know there would be a book 11 and if you told me I would have shaken my head and wondered where I must get the time to write a full length book every month. But you know it just happened. First I get the idea and then the book writes itself. I really don’t know what will happen in them until I write them but I do get ideas from previous books. Many times I am astonished myself in which way the stories unfolded themselves and I cannot logically explain this either so don’t ask. I just type, it is easy for me and must be talent from God as it sure is not me and I do not claim any honour. I imagine my late wife across me and tell her the story and your read it later on. Thank you for that by the way, I am grateful for everyone reading GMJ.
Without giving too much away of the script - the book starts where Code Name Phoenix left off during the Egg Breaker War and Foxtrot goes down south with his merry men to ambush a squadron of South African Navy ships coming north to investigate the sinking of their frigate in Code Name Phoenix. I know the area in northern KwaZulu-Natal well enough to be able to show you where it could have happen and did happen in the fictional book. As you can expect the actual battle is as realistic as can be.
For me, the best moment in the book is where after the EBS (Egg Breaker Ship, an in-house joke) Orlando is sunk by the South African Air Force Gripen jets and the wreck torpedoed by HMS Astute to prevent it from capture. Interestingly for those who accused me of being anti-South African (whatever that means) what impressed me was the quick reaction from the frigate when its sonars picked up the torpedoes in the water. So I actually gave a lot of credit to my so called “enemies” in the book as I do in many others.
The cover is interesting with a parachutist jumping from a C130 Hercules over a gorge or dam in the background. This place actually exists. The aircraft is a new model C130J and the gorge is the Challawa Gorge Dam in Kano State in North East Nigeria where the ISIS partner, Boko Haram, is causing a lot trouble. You will remember they abducted a couple of hundred school girls there and the West, once so viral about it, is now extremely quiet about it (also predicted in the book). Just after Code Name Lise was published a group of former South African Special Forces men went to that area to assist the Nigerian Government. To me that was extremely fascinating and no the book played no role whatsoever in it. It was by pure chance that the same thing happened in Code Name Lise although slightly different with Foxtrot making a HALO (high altitude low opening) jump with his mates into Kano State. It showed to me the GMJ Books are not far from reality. Whatever is said in them or is described in history is factually one hundred percent correct.
And then some said to me that a Hercules cargo plane cannot land on an aircraft carrier and certainly not take off again. Well, it happened many times and there are even videos of it on YouTube, you can research this and will find out I am correct. It happened as did the attempt to poison water resources and the method of placing captured cell phones in a microwave oven to prevent it remotely being wiped, well, that is well-known in my world.
The name of the book is explained by Angelique in Code Name Phoenix. It is also the name of the eldest twin Foxtrot and Angelique produced after their wedding. This was not by chance and a later book, Code Name Odette, refers back to Code Name Lise in this regard. I loved writing this book and I hope you will love reading it.
George M James is a pseudo name for the author and used for security reasons. He is an expert on counter-terrorism and counterinsurgency operations in sub-Saharan Africa, a military historian and published author of more than 50 books. In the GMJ Series, you will learn about Covert Operations, Special Forces techniques, current political analyses and military history not known outside the select few. Every GMJ Book is based on historical fact and often what is revealed in a GMJ Book is published by the mainstream media a short while later. Many of the GMJ Books are used as training material by Police Forces (SWAT) across the world. Note please that GMJ does not claim to have served in South African Army or Police Special Forces.
