There was a recent article in UK newspapers that Russia is able to overrun Eastern Europe in three days and NATO can do nothing to stop them. NATO Forces, it said, is hopelessly outgunned. I have been saying and warning about that in many GMJ Books, the Russia of today is not the old Soviet Union, they have modern technology, a strong leader and a patriotic population willing to take losses. Unfortunately, it seems that the lessons had not yet come home. Most believe that NATO cannot lose. Well they have in recent times, in Afghanistan and Iraq and ran out of bombs against Libya with the Arab Spring operations (after three weeks). And from research done after the Cold War ended, chances are excellent that NATO would have lost against the Warsaw Pact.
Now to be sure, Russia is in no way a threat to Western Europe as it was under the Soviet Union. There is no reason which I can think about on why Russia would be bothered to attack Eastern Europe so it is just as much crap speculation and panic for reasons which seem to me a diversion away from the European “migrant” problem created by Angela Merkel and the European Union. And this “migrant” problem is a real threat. A lot more than what you think and we can trace it back to a phone call between Mr Blair, former Prime Minister of the UK and one Colonel Gaddhafi, in 2011, about ten months before the Arab Spring took place. In my new GMJ Book, Code Name Casselberry (expected to be published at the end of February 2016) I write the following:
The Al-Qaeda threat was known long before the Arab Spring broke out. On 25 February 2011, ten months before the uprisings, a telephone conversation between Gadhafi and Tony Blair, then long removed but influential, took place. Let me quote it for you verbatim, it is great reading and kept secret until 2016. Colonel Gaddhafi said (to Mr Blair): “They (Al-Qaeda radicals) are controlling the Mediterranean Sea. Ships and vessels of non-believers will flee. They have managed to set up local stations and in Benghazi have spread thoughts and ideas of Al-Qaeda. Like in the day of Barbarossa and during the Ottoman Empire, the jihadists want to control the Mediterranean. They would then attack Europe.” As clear an indication, confirmed by ISIS statements, that they want to attack Europe. And according to a German Intelligence head, the migrants are infiltrated by Islamic terrorists (as predicted and said in GMJ Books, Code Name Cadillac, Code Name OST-M and others).
Code Name Casselberry got nothing to do with Libya or the “migrants” but about a rescue operation in getting trapped diplomats out of a county during time of civil disobedience (read riots, thievery, rape and murder) without using conventional forces but spies and Special Forces only. It is also a book with a frightening scenario where South African Special Forces ambush a US Navy SEAL Team trying to land uninvited. What happens further you can read for yourself but be assured, if such a clash does take place in the future, it would be the end of that SEAL Team. Because my late wife was an American girl of the best kind, a real patriot, I did not reveal what tactics would be used. However, that what I left out, is known to many and it will be used and with devastating effect.
I do get readers and others responding to my books and perhaps have access to information that the common man cannot possibly know because of it. As in many books, the truth may be closer than the fiction in it. I read the comments on the NATO feebleness article with great interest to see what the local Joe on the street thinks of the idea of Russia overrunning Eastern Europe, a shocking idea to most. Generally, they were going on, as did the article, on NATO airpower and technical superiority when not blaming their leaders. Now this NATO air superiority is a myth discussed and dismissed in many GMJ Books. Listen to me, NATO does not have any air superiority in Europe! And yes, I can prove my statement. It shocked me so much that I wrote about it, as a warning for I also once believed that the good guys always win.
Basically, what happened was that after German reunification in 1989, the West German Air Force took over what remained of East Germany’s armed forces, a senior (well stocked) Warsaw pact country. What they found was frightening and this is on record, it is not fiction. They found that the Soviet air-to-air missiles in the East German Air Force arsenals, were much better than their American counterparts. Yes, so much better that the Germans started a consortium of nations to build their own infrared short range air-to-air missile, the IRIS-T. This missile is today reckoned to be 5 -8 times better than any American (Western) missile in existence and you can bet your ass that the Russians have similar systems and then something else took place. The Germans organised “Red Flag” or “Top Gun” type exercises called ACM or air combat manoeuvring known to the public as “dogfights” between the former East German lads and themselves. And they lost, in every single engagement the NATO aircraft got shot down. There is a South African connection here called Dieter Gerhard, a former South African Navy commodore and Soviet GRU (Military Intelligence, rated far above the KGB) spy. He stole a locally designed helmet aiming device called the Kukri System in the early eighties. What the Kukri did was to slave the missile seeker heads to a dot sight in the helmet, you look at your enemy, lock on it, and press the trigger. Amazing South African Air Force technology and guess what, the new USAF Lockheed Martin F-35 “stealth” (stealth it isn’t) fighter is equipped with the "latest" model of this helmet system. Yes, South African technology bought out by BAE, the British company and may I add, not the latest version either. We have better and so does Russia, a fellow BRICS Nation, and then came the V3E Agile Darter. (You really should read Code Name Blue Tang where this is discussed in great detail and also, in somewhat lesser detail, Code Name Missa 72.)
The V3E Agile Darter is a short range air-to-air missile manufactured by South Africa with Brazilian input (they also have the SAAB JAS39 Gripen fighter jets or will have soon, and the reason why is extremely interesting – see Code Name Blue Tang). This missile is better than the IRIS-T which means, simply, linked to the improved helmet look-down-shoot-down system, if such a jet gets close and it will, it will most likely win the dogfight and shoot the other one down. The dropping of flares is not going to make it miss, taking off into the sun is not going to make it miss and it is deadly. Why is this important? It means that the so called “technological superiority” of NATO is non-existent. It is a myth as is the so called BVR or beyond visual range missiles, also discussed in Code Name Blue Tang, a great read of 300 pages if ever.
What else? The Russians have better ejection chairs than the West and yes, we get the dim-witted ones saying they need it too, good joke. But tell me, how long does it take to train a fighter pilot? How many years? And if he is shot down, and eject, and live to fly again, as against the other fellow, who also ejects but breaks every second bone in his legs, who is the most valuable to his country? We have to get away from this “OMG if it is not American it must be crap attitude in life” or we will get a surprise nobody desires. Without air superiority, you cannot win a war. Your tanks, which are not superior to Russian ones, by the way, will be destroyed, your supply convoys, be it ships, trains or trucks, will be destroyed from the air if not protected. Without air superiority your carriers are sitting ducks and will be sunk at will as they are in exercises against submarines, something suppressed in the West. There are many who says, based on this, that this is what would have happened with a Warsaw Pact versus NATO clash and today, nothing, it seems have changed. Do not underestimate your enemy, throughout history we have seen massive embarrassments where this happened. Yes, NATO will almost certainly lose such a fight and badly too.
George M James is a pseudo name for the author and used for security reasons. He is an expert on counter-terrorism and counterinsurgency operations in sub-Saharan Africa, a military historian and published author of more than 50 books. In the GMJ Series, you will learn about Covert Operations, Special Forces techniques, current political analyses and military history not known outside the select few. Every GMJ Book is based on historical fact and often what is revealed in a GMJ Book is published by the mainstream media a short while later. Many of the GMJ Books are used as training material by Police Forces (SWAT) across the world. Note please that GMJ does not claim to have served in South African Army or Police Special Forces.
